Disability policy deserves proper election scrutiny
Decisions made by the next government will affect disability support, healthcare, education, housing, employment, income, transport, accessibility, carers and community participation.
Inclusive World NZ is creating an independent comparison of political-party disability policies for the 2026 New Zealand election.
Each political party will be assessed using the same core disability issues. Parties will also be invited to provide direct answers to the same set of questions.
What this disability policy comparison will provide
Election promises should be clear enough for the disability community to understand what a party intends to do, how it will fund its commitments and when change would occur.
Equal questions
Each political party will be offered the same opportunity to answer the same core disability-policy questions.
Official policy links
Wherever possible, summaries will link directly to the party’s official policy or published response.
Clear response status
Visitors will be able to see whether a response has been received, is awaiting publication or was not provided.
Accessible summaries
Long policy statements will be explained using clear language without deliberately changing their meaning.
Community commentary
Disability organisations and community contributors may explain how proposed policies could affect real lives.
Promise tracking
Important election commitments can remain visible after the election so the next government can be held accountable.
How party responses will be labelled
Status labels will describe what information has been received without implying support for or opposition to a party.
A direct response or complete 2026 policy has been received and published.
Questions have been sent, but a response has not yet been received.
The stated response period has ended without a party response.
Relevant information has been identified and is being checked before publication.

This section will be updated as political parties announce their election policies and respond to the Inclusive World NZ disability-policy questionnaire.
The party list will be checked against the Electoral Commission’s official Register of Political Parties. Additional registered parties may be added as the election approaches.

Inclusive World NZ has created the comparison structure before sending the formal questionnaire. This ensures that all parties receive the same questions and are assessed using a consistent process.

What questions should political parties answer?
Community knowledge can strengthen this project
Disabled people, carers, whānau, advocates and disability organisations may identify important issues that have not yet been included.
You can suggest a question, identify a published party policy, point out missing information or contribute an opinion about how a proposal may affect the disability community.
Our political policy publishing principles
Inclusive World NZ supports disability advocacy while also aiming to present party information accurately and fairly.
- Political parties will be offered the same core questions and a reasonable opportunity to respond.
- Direct party statements will be clearly distinguished from Inclusive World NZ summaries and community opinions.
- Official policy sources will be linked wherever practical.
- A party’s failure to respond will be recorded accurately without inventing or assuming its position.
- Policy summaries will aim to preserve the original meaning and avoid selective quotation.
- Material changes or corrections will be dated and clearly identified.
- Community criticism and support will be identified as opinion.
- Inclusive World NZ will not tell visitors which party they must vote for.
